What should I wear when I visit Sunday?

What makes you comfortable? Please, come as you are. Some will wear formal attire while others choose blue jeans and a t-shirt.

Are you a part of a denomination?

Theologically, Trinity Church is a Lutheran Church and part of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. But what does that mean? Simply put, it means that we place Jesus at the center of everything we do. Lutheran churches emerged almost 500 years ago, when Christians sought to return the church to the teachings of Jesus and His first disciples, in a movement that has come to be known as “The Reformation”.

The key teachings of this movement were recorded and written down by Martin Luther in his Small Catechism, which was written to instruct everyday people in how to live out their faith by teaching them about God (using the Apostles’ Creed), how to live out their faith (using the 10 Commandments), and how to pray (using the Lord’s Prayer). It also explains some of the gifts that God has given us to nurture our faith, namely, the Bible and the sacraments.

Do I need to become a member? If so, what is the membership process?

You do not need to be a member to attend worship on Sunday morning.

Being a part of a church is about walking together in faith.  It is about mutual commitments to one another as we become more like Christ and live out His mission in the world.  At Trinity, we talk about being part of the Trinity family.

A Discover Trinity small group is an opportunity to learn what it means to be part of this family.  During our time together, we will share stories, discuss the church's mission, and explore our roles as part of this community called Trinity. Contact the main church office (630-964-1272) for more information about connecting with a Discover Trinity small group.

How do I prepare for Communion?

God’s Word tells us that when we receive Communion, we are not merely receiving bread and wine, but the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Baptized adult Christians are invited to share this great gift of God.

While some who support a symbolic view of the Lord’s Supper allow any and all to take

part in this meal, the church family at Trinity sees things differently. The Apostle Paul is clear in his teaching that both the ability to “examine” oneself inwardly as well as an ability to “recognize” what is happening in the meal are both essential in celebrating it in a worthy manner. (1 Cor. 11:27-30)

For us, this means that those actually receiving the Lord’s Supper should be able to answer “Yes” to the following questions:

Are you a baptized believer in Christ? You are making a proclamation of your faith when you come to the Lord’s Supper. You are also saying that you align to what we as a church teach about the Christian faith and the Lord’s Supper.

Are you in a lifestyle of repentance and reliance on Christ? Do you confess your sin and profess your faith in Christ? Do you rely on his salvation won through his life, death, and resurrection for us?

Do you recognize that Jesus’ presence is given, his body and blood mysteriously present in

the bread and wine? Jesus’ own words say it and the Bible confirms it, Jesus gives us his presence in this sacred meal.

Young children and guests are always welcome to come to the Lord’s Table, as we believe this meal is an important witness to how God works and to what Jesus has done for the world. If you have children who wish to take the meal, we encourage you to talk with one of pastors to find out how you can help them prepare to receive this great gift.

How do I get baptized?

In Baptism, we are given the gifts of faith, forgiveness and God's amazing grace - rescuing us from death and bringing us into His eternal family. If you are interested in learning more about baptism for yourself or your child, contact the main church office (630-964-1272) .

Do you provide a pastor and/or space for a wedding?

Trinity is glad to provide a pastor and/or space for a wedding for those who are connected (in some way) to our church family, or for those who live in the communities where we have worship sites and who do NOT have a church home. Contact the church office (630-964-1272) to learn more.

Do you offer support for funerals?

When someone we love dies, we need the hope and comfort that comes from God’s promises for us more than ever. The Trinity family is ready to pray for you and your family and do all we can to support you during this time of loss. For prayer support, you can submit a prayer request online or contact our church office at 630-964-1272.

If you would like to talk to someone about having a pastor from Trinity conduct funeral or memorial services for your loved one who has died, please call the church office at 630.964.1272.
